THE SNOWCAT
Catskiing is done through 11 seats heaten Bombardier tyoe
Snowcats.
The main Cat Skiing advantage is that operates during storms,
when the snow is the best. It's magical really. And you can
ski as much as 18,000 vertical feet in a day.... for no extra
money.
THE TERRAIN
The
other big difference with Heliskiing is the terrain, since
snowcats cant reach the same height as helicopters
do, so to get to the same daily vertical you need more runs
, from a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 13..
About 20% is moderate/gentle, another 45% is the very FUN
steep (between 20 and 35 degrees) and the other 35% is VERY
steep (beyond 35 degrees). But, because of the phenomenal
snow and consistent fall line, this is fantastic terrain
to learn good technique and gain confidence in your powder
skiing.
The terrain has approximately 25% open slopes in the form
of alpine ridge lines, open bowls, avalanche chutes and
large, natural openings in the trees. These features tend
to be moderately to extremely steep. The rest of the terrain
is treed.
GUIDES, SAFETY, ABILITY SKILLS
Regarding GUIDES, SAFETY, ABILITY SKILLS, there are really
no big differences with heliskiing, while concerning the
daily schedule you must consider that the snowcat ride in
the morning dumps you out the back for your first run within
40 minutes of departure from the lodge, and each run requires
at least a 15 minutes lift.
This is sufficient time to grab bite a of lunch and a drink
you can bring on board.
